When in Victoria…a road trip to Lake Tyrell, a four-hour drive from Melbourne to my mind, is well worth the visit. Well who wouldn’t want to see a pink lake!
The largest inland salt lake in Victoria is an amazing place to visit with people drawn to the mesmerising scenery, stunning sunrises and sunsets and breathtaking night skies. The unique salty formation on the lake bed is a unique photo opportunity, over the shallow lake’s reflective surface. Even though we visited at a time when there was minimal water covering the salt bed, the pinkish hues were visible as far as the eye could see. The cloudy skies meant star gazing didn’t eventuate, but the sunset was wonderfully colourful. I would totally recommend a stay at the Royal Hotel at Sea Lake – the facilities and the service were exceptional. This trip is certainly worth a repeat.

Sunsets brought a whole new magical hue with deep reds and blues replacing the pastel pinks and yellows of the afternoon.

Initially we thought that the circular viewing platform was “it” and getting off to walk on the salt flats was maybe not allowed. However, on this second visit of the day, I spotted a few people way in the distance walking over the salt without any problem. Say no more, and I was off going as far as I could before the sunset and all its glory started to shine.

Back at Sea Lake and our accommodation…what a special little township and a buzzing hotel especially on a Friday night. The hotel restaurant was fully booked so we enjoyed our meal upstairs on the verandah!
