The Ngaire Diary

  • Te Aroha and beyond…again

10 days with my Mum in Te Aroha is like stepping back from the hustle and bustle and taking life easy. A bullet point summary of what happened during this time would be as follows: Can totally recommend the Palace Hotel for a most delicious meal! Meanderings around the main street…coupled with some amazing sunset colours! Te Aroha Domain Day There were markets, food stalls, croc and music. The Te… Continue reading

  • The Beach at Last!

It was a much needed break…one at Coolum beach where the weather was warm, the surf was just nicely surfy, the family had a ball and I even went for a couple of swims. The camera didn’t make much of an appearance except for the last morning where I at least had to capture a sunrise. Otherwise it was photos by phone! Continue reading

  • The Proposal

Congratulations Georgina and Matt! The forecast was not looking good with thunderstorms forecast for that afternoon. We pushed back the time to after the storm and closer to sunset so in the end there was some amazing colour in the sky. Still needed the umbrella though. But of course, the weather certainly didn’t dampen the excitement, the nerves and the beautiful love these two have for each other. Quite the… Continue reading

  • Purple Rain

Jacaranda season is upon us here in Brisbane and it adorns the city with an amazing patchwork of purple. The Jacaranda Festival is held every year at Goodna and Brisbane Terrace becomes a magnet for people to come from all over to capture the plethora of trees on display. I went on Sunday evening after the crowds had disappeared and before the sun dipped below the horizon and simply enjoyed… Continue reading

  • Roadtripping – Rosevale to Rosewood Style

The last few weeks have been hot and dry here in Queensland and it’s not even summer. With the landscape turning from green to brown, I wanted to drive through roads less travelled in the Scenic Rim area to discover places not yet seen. St Pauls Lutheran Church in Rosevale looked liked it had been freshly painted and the white weatherboards contrasted so well against the blue sky and brown… Continue reading

  • Afterglow Lights Up Brisbane

Brisbane City Botanical Gardens was host to Afterglow as part of this years festival – a walk through the park IKEA like style, wandering along the paths to experience displays of light and sound. This was a ticketed event so there were not hoards of people and the walk through the gardens looking at the various displays made the night so much better. However, instead of just capturing the displays… Continue reading

  • wivenhoe sunset

Last weekend saw me head to Wivenhoe to my favourite spot because it has a tree that reminds of that infamous Wanaka tree in New Zealand. Except this place doesn’t attract tourists or many photographers either. There were a couple of pelicans and a young man sitting on the rocks close by listening to his favourite tunes and vaping…he just bet me to the spot by a couple of minutes… Continue reading

  • In a hole in the ground there lived a Hobbit

Hobbiton, Matamata Having read the books and seen the movies, it was a beautiful summer day to visit the movie set now a tourist mecca set in lush, rolling farmland. What was surprising was the number of people still fascinated enough with the world of Tolkien to visit this place, just like me really. Against the rolling hillside, you can walk along the paths around the 40 or so hobbit… Continue reading

  • Family…or part thereof

Boxing Day 2024 saw most of the family come over to finish off the food from the previous day and muck around outside playing games and goofing around. Just a really nice relaxing time being able to get out the camera and snap away at all the shenanigans happening. Kids and their antics always make it that extra special. Unfortunately not all the family could make it, but sometimes the… Continue reading

  • Strange Road

Google Maps will give you directions to this rural road from Te Aroha, a town in the North Island. I grew up here. I biked along this road growing up. I travelled along this road earlier in the year. It’s nice to be able to capture the ordinary things that often you take for granted. Continue reading
