Yep, there is a pun intended here…and quite literally, there were no wildflowers to be seen. Quite the hunt it was, as the directions given had me driving on a dirt/gravel road for 27km along Seventeen Mile Road from Helidon to Ravenbourne National Park. An uphill climb which demanded some pretty spectacular views of the Lockyer Valley region from the Gus Beutel Lookout once I reached the top. I might have gone for a short bush walk but the warnings about ticks and leeches made me not go…I didn’t have any good repellent on me. So this portion of the drive did not produce any sightings of wildflowers.

Then returning down the range from Hampton to Murphy’s Creek along Collingwood Road…this was where the wildflowers were supposed to be seen in their abundance. Alas and alack…not one wildflower was spotted. Who knows what happened to those wildflowers! Never a waste of a drive though – that 4WD experience was definitely worth the journey.
