The Blue Springs just outside Putaturu, New Zealand is well known internationally with the water being so pure that it accounts for 60% of New Zealand’s bottled water. There is a picturesque walk following the crystal-clear Waihou River through rolling farmland and native bush.

The water that comes from the Blue Spring flows from the Kaimai Range and it takes anywhere from 50 to 100 years to reach the Blue Spring from its source. The beautiful clear blue-green of the Blue Spring is due to its purity as particles are removed during its journey through underground acquifers.

Although the entire walk is 10kms (there and back), a shorter walk will get you far enough to experience the colour and clarity of the water as it meanders along its course.
